Learn About Becoming a Member
Persons who desire to participate fully in the mission and ministry of Arlington United Methodist Church and have taken the new members course, A Follower's Life, are invited to become members of the church. You may become a member by:
- Profession of Faith - for those who desire to profess their Christian faith for the first time, or after a long absence from any church involvement.
- Profession of Faith with Baptism - same as above with the sacrament of baptism for those who have never been baptized.
- Transfer from another Denomination - for those who have a current church membership in a denomination other that the United Methodist church.
- Transfer from another United Methodist Church - for those who currently have their membership in another United Methodist congregation.
How To Become A Member
New Members Luncheon / Coffee with the Pastors, hosted every few months after worship services, is a great opportunity to get acquainted with Arlington United Methodist Church, other newcomers, as well as the Senior and Associate Pastors and several lay leaders. If you would like more information about the church or are considering making this your church home, this would be a great place to start.
Anyone interested in taking the next step towards membership is encouraged to participate in our new member's class, which is typically held on Sunday mornings from 9:30 - 10:30 am. This course is offered at least two times each year, once in the fall and once in the spring in both English and Spanish. The New Members Class, in addition to opportunities for fellowship and service, also covers the following topics…
- Session One: Who is Jesus? What is a Christian?
- Session Two: How Do You Grow in Christ? What are the Spiritual Disciplines?
- Session Three: What is a United Methodist (With a special emphasis on the Sacraments)
- Session Four: What Does It Mean to Be a Member of Arlington UMC? Our Shared Vision, Mission, and Values?
Members join during a joint worship service that is held on World Communion Sunday in the fall and on Pentecost Sunday in the spring. For more information about how to participate in the next Coffee with the Pastors or the New Members Class, contact Susan Weaver at the main office, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am until 1:00 pm, (703) 979-7527.
