Christian Cinema Classics
This summer, join us as we kick back and enjoy some of the classic films that portray the Christian faith throughout the ages from Moses all the way to C.S. Lewis. The Faith Film Café will run on Thursday nights in the SonShine Room from 6:00—9:00 pm and will include questions for conversation among the participants and a Biblical guide for deeper reflection at home. Feel free to bring your own snacks or the café will also have a snack bar open with light refreshments for a small fee (we promise our prices will be better than Regal Cinema prices!)
Faith Film Café Summer Line Up
The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston
Thursday, July 8, 6—8:30 pm (First Half) AND Sunday, July 11, 6 – 8:30 pm (Second Half)
For sheer pageantry and spectacle, few motion pictures can claim to equal the splendor of Cecil B. DeMille's 1956 remake of his epic The Ten Commandments. Filmed in Egypt and the Sinai with one of the biggest sets ever constructed for a motion picture, this version tells the story of the life of Moses (Charlton Heston), once favored in the Pharaoh's (Yul Brynner) household, who turned his back on a privileged life to lead his people to freedom.
St. Patrick: The Irish Legend (Patrick Bergin) OR Brother Sun, Sister Moon (by Franco Zefirelli)
Thursday, July 15, 6 – 9:00 pm * Participants Choice
St. Patrick: The Irish Legend (2000) is the first ever feature film depicting the life of the world-famous Irish hero. Armed with only courage and conviction, Patrick's unwavering belief that good conquers evil would liberate Ireland and alter the course of history. Patrick Bergin, Malcolm McDowell, Alan Bates, and Susannah York star in this lush production filmed on location in Ireland.

Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972) is an uncommonly rewarding and meaningful film experience. A real blessing, causing the viewer to examine the depth and commitment of his own walk with Christ. Zefirelli's cinematography is beautiful throughout. The film focuses on the early years of Saint Francis of Assisi, who renounced his family's riches and past worldly life to follow Christ in sincerity and humility, unencumbered by material possessions.
Luther with Joseph Fiennes & Sir Peter Ustinov
Thursday July 22, 6 – 9:00 pm
Regional princes and the powerful Church wield a fast, firm and merciless grip on 16th century Germany. But when Martin Luther, played by Joseph Fiennes, issues a shocking challenge to their authority, the people declare him their new leader -- and hero. Even when threatened with violent death, Luther refuses to back down, sparking a bloody revolution that shakes the entire continent to its core. The New York Times called this movie, “epic, and ravishingly beautiful…”
The Mission with Robert De Nero & Jeremy Irons
Thursday, July 29, 6 – 9:00 pm
The Mission is a powerful, compelling true story of sincere Jesuit missionaries to Indians in the Amazon rain forest in Colonial times, and how the new converts were "sold out" (to be murdered and captured as slaves) by a Church hierarchy interested only in "politics" for the preservation of its own power. It raises questions of "counting the costs" and "obeying God rather than man." Also the question of peaceful "non-resistance" versus active violent opposition to evil, when the evil is being perpetrated by governmental authorities and one's own religious superiors and church.
Shadowlands with Anthony Hopkins & Debra Winger
Thursday, August 12, 6 – 9:00 pm
Based on a true story, C.S. Lewis (Anthony Hopkins) is a world renowned writer and professor. Unmarried, he leads a gentleman's life filled by intellectual pursuits, remaining untouched by any great passion until he meets Joy Gresham (Debra Winger) and he begins to experience for the first time what he has written about for so long.
