"Women in the Arts"
In celebration of Women's History Month, the Arlington Artist Alliance is featuring beautiful portraits of women by Arlington artists George Bowels, Susan Foulke, and Dana Saxerud. The exhibit is on display in the Sonshine Room through March 27th.
Artists' Bio
GEORGE BOWLES: Having first trained as a philosopher and having taught philosophy for over twenty years, George Bowles rekindled his childhood passion for painting. He studied painting and drawing at the Bougie Studio in Minneapolis, producing in the course of his study numerous charcoal and pencil drawings, still lifes, portraits, landscapes, and figure paintings.
George has exhibited his work at the Abbot Gallery, McLean; Byrne Gallery, Middleburg; Fisher Art Gallery (solo show) and the Art League Gallery, Alexandria; Fraser Gallery, Bethesda; JarrettThor Fine Arts, Colonial Beach, and Metropolitan Gallery, Arlington; as well as Sothebys.com (via Fraser Gallery).
Some of his works have appeared in several art competitions and shows locally and nationally. These appearances have earned him numerouse accolades. He was featured as Artist of the month on The Artist's Magazine website from April 6-May 6, 2005. He was recently one of ten winners in the "Over Sixty" national competition sponsored by The Artist's Magazine for his work "Balloon Man." The painting and a brief interview can be seen in the magazine's March 2010 issue.
DANA SAXERUD: As principal of The Renaissance Studios, established in 2000, Dana Saxerud has over twenty years' experience as professional painter, muralist, book and magazine illustrtor, and portrait artist. Her clients include corporations, financial institutions, the United States Navy and Members of Congress.
Dana's commercial work has appeared in The Washington Post, The Baltimore Sun, The New Jersey Star Ledger, numerous corporate publications and political campaign literature. Her own paintings have been exhibited throughout Maryland, Northern Virginia and on Capitol Hill in several solo and juried group shows.
Dana is also a restorer of ine paintings and murals in conjunction with art conservation companies. Her inpainting appears in the U.S. Capitol, Independence Hall, the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, federal government buildings, historic sites, court houses, museums, and churches in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. She currently resides in Arlington, VA and may be reached in her studio office at (703) 741-3953.
We are open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 3:00 p.m., Sunday mornings, and other times by appointment.
